Me'ah is a two-year program of intensive study of Jewish texts and history sponsored by the CJP's Commission on Jewish Continuity & Education and by Hebrew College. This wonderful program is designed for adult learners regardless of the depth, or lack thereof, of their previous Jewish studies. With the guidance of superb teachers selected by Hebrew College, Me'ah students are exposed to core Jewish texts and secondary sources. Through reading, lectures and discussion, students grapple with the historical, cultural and political experience of the Jewish people from biblical times to the modern era. As they gain a foundation in Jewish thought and history, students develop the means to engage in more advanced study and to deepen their understanding of and attachment to Jewish religion, tradition and culture.
Eitz Chayim gratefully acknowledges receipt of a grant from CJP to help underwrite the costs of the course. Synagogue membership is not a criteria for acceptance into this class. Curiosity and a desire to learn are. Members of neighboring congregations are invited to join in the newly forming class, as are non-affiliated individuals. As in the past this course will be a Cambridge-Somerville-Medford collaborative venture.
